Citéco brings Platon, Smith, and Keynes to the stage
Angie and Nono are... on a surfboard. Enthusiastic and slightly eccentric teachers, they invite visitors to the Cité de l’Économie (Citéco) to dive into the grand history of humanity by surfing the waves of economic thought. The one-hour show offers a (re)discovery of the major economic theories, from Platon to John Maynard Keynes, including Adam Smith and Marx, which were designed to organize human exchanges over the centuries.
"The idea for this play came from the observation that great thinkers are no longer studied in high school. We wanted to address that," explains the museum’s programming director. The play's script, written in collaboration with Citéco’s experts, is primarily aimed at teenagers aged 15 and up. However, it is just as effective at refreshing the memories of those who may have forgotten how the "invisible hand" works or the core of the great dichotomy between advocates of the common good and the champions of market self-regulation.
These reminders also help to better analyze our current era, which has been shaken by the health crisis.
